Placeholder text for layouts

Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin used as filler while a design is being built. It exists because real readable copy distracts reviewers into editing the words instead of judging the layout, while repeated nonsense like 'text text text' does not flow like real language. This generator produces as many paragraphs as you need, based on the classical Cicero passage.

How to use the Lorem Ipsum Generator

  1. Set the number of Paragraphs.
  2. Choose the Type of output.
  3. Generate and copy into your mockup.
  4. Replace it with real copy before anything goes live.

Formula and a worked example

Classical Latin source text → shuffled into sentences and paragraphs

The original text comes from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum, written in 45 BC. Typesetters have used a garbled version of it since the 1500s because its letter distribution resembles English closely enough to look natural at a glance.

Worked example

A three-paragraph block gives roughly 150 words — about the length of a short article intro, which is enough to see how your line height, measure and paragraph spacing behave together.

Frequently asked questions

Why use Latin instead of English?

Because reviewers read English and start editing it. Latin looks like text without inviting anyone to proofread the layout.

Does lorem ipsum mean anything?

Not as printed. It is a corrupted extract from Cicero, so fragments are real Latin words but the passage does not read as sense.

Will placeholder text hurt my SEO?

Only if it reaches production. Lorem ipsum on a live page is a strong signal of an unfinished site — always replace it before launch.

Is lorem ipsum still the best option?

For layout work, yes. For testing real reading behaviour, draft copy at the right length is better.
