How to Change Uppercase to Lowercase
Paste the text and press lowercase. The tool turns THE LORD OF THE RINGS into the lord of the rings in one step. Going from uppercase to lowercase this way fixes text typed with Caps Lock left on. Press Sentence case next to restore capitals.
The reverse works the same way. Press UPPERCASE to switch lowercase to uppercase for headings, labels or short warnings. Long paragraphs in all caps are hard to read.
Title Case vs Sentence Case
Title Case capitalizes the main words and leaves short words such as a, of and the in lowercase. Our tool turns the lord of the rings into The Lord of the Rings. The first and last word of a line always get a capital, as does the word after a colon.
Sentence case capitalizes only the first word of each sentence and the pronoun I. It suits body text, captions and many blog headings. Names such as London or Maria turn lowercase too, so fix them by hand afterward.
Changing Case in Word, Excel and Google Docs
Microsoft Word has a shortcut for this job. Select the text and press Shift + F3 on Windows to cycle through lowercase, UPPERCASE and Capitalize Each Word. In Excel, =LOWER(A1) turns uppercase to lowercase in a cell, while =UPPER(A1) and =PROPER(A1) cover the other styles.
Google Docs keeps the option under Format, then Text, then Capitalization. An online tool is faster for text outside those apps. Unlike a simple capitalize option, its Title Case keeps short words such as of and the in lowercase.
