Crypto Profit/Loss Calculator

Calculate profit, loss, ROI, and break-even with optional fees.

Working out crypto profit and loss

Crypto positions are easy to misjudge because fees land on both sides of the trade and the numbers rarely round neatly. This crypto profit calculator takes your buy price, sell price, quantity and total fees, then returns the profit or loss in money, the return as a percentage, and the break-even price — the level the coin has to reach before you have made anything at all.

How to use the Crypto Profit/Loss Calculator

  1. Enter your Buy Price (per coin).
  2. Enter the Sell Price (per coin) — or the current price to check an open position.
  3. Enter the Quantity of coins.
  4. Add total Fees for both sides, then read profit, ROI and break-even.

Formula and a worked example

P/L = (Sell − Buy) × Qty − Fees · ROI = P/L ÷ (Buy × Qty + Fees) × 100
Break-even = Buy + (Fees ÷ Qty)

Break-even is the figure most people skip. Fees mean the coin has to rise slightly above your purchase price before the trade is worth anything, and on small positions that gap can be surprisingly wide.

Worked example

Buy 0.5 BTC at 40,000, sell at 46,000, with 120 in total fees. Gross gain is 6,000 × 0.5 = 3,000; after fees the profit is 2,880 on a cost of 20,120, an ROI of 14.31%. Break-even sat at 40,240 — the price had to clear that before anything was earned.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a crypto loss?

The same way. If the sell price is below the buy price the result is negative — that figure is your realised loss, and it is the number most tax regimes want.

Should I include fees on both trades?

Yes. Put the combined buy-side and sell-side fees in the fees field, plus any network or withdrawal charges.

What is break-even price and why does it matter?

It is the price at which you exit with nothing gained and nothing lost. Below it you are down even if the coin has risen since you bought.

Is this a tax calculator?

No. It gives realised profit or loss, which is usually the starting point for a tax return, but rules on cost basis and holding periods vary by country.
