Marla to Square Feet Calculator for Plots in Pakistan

Our marla to square feet calculator converts plot sizes between marla, kanal, square feet, square yards, square meters and acres. Pick the marla size your city or housing society uses, and the answer follows it. It also does square feet to marla, so you can find how many marla a plot holds.

What a Marla Is

A marla is a traditional unit of land area used in Pakistan and in parts of northern India. Property ads, society files and revenue records all quote plots in marla and kanal.

The size of a marla is not the same everywhere. The old British standard is 272.25 square feet, which is one square rod. Many modern housing schemes quote a smaller figure of 225 square feet. That gap is why a plot sold as 10 marla can differ by hundreds of square feet.

How to Use the Marla to Square Feet Calculator

  • Type the value you want to convert in the first box.
  • Choose the unit you start from. For square feet to marla, pick square feet.
  • Pick the marla size that applies to your plot or type your own.
  • Read every other unit in the results at once.

The tool also shows the answer in kanal, marla and leftover square feet. If you pick kanal, an extra box lets you add marla, so 1 kanal 5 marla can be entered as typed.

Marla to Square Feet Formula

The formula is simple. Multiply the number of marla by the square feet in one marla. With 272.25 square feet per marla, 5 marla is 5 times 272.25, which is 1,361.25 square feet.

Square Feet to Marla

Square feet to marla is the reverse. Divide the area by the square feet in one marla. A plot of 2,500 square feet is 9.18 marla at 272.25 and 11.11 marla at 225.

The same plot reads as 9 marla and 49.75 square feet in one system and 11 marla and 25 square feet in the other. Always confirm the figure before you agree on a price.

Which Size of a Marla Should You Use

There is no single rule for every city. It depends on the area, the housing scheme and the records the seller holds. Ask for the plot area in square feet or square yards, and use that number as the proof.

Square feet per marlaSquare yards per marlaWhere you often see it
272.2530.25Revenue records and the old British standard
27030Some rural areas
25027.78Some suburban schemes
22525Many urban housing societies

These are the values the calculator offers. If your file gives another figure, choose custom and type it. The tool then applies it to every unit on the page.

Kanal to Square Feet

A kanal is always 20 marla, so marla to kanal is a division by 20. The area still depends on the marla size. At 272.25 square feet per marla, 1 kanal is 5,445 square feet or 605 square yards. At 225, 1 kanal is 4,500 square feet or 500 square yards.

Eight kanal make one acre in the old system, and 1 acre is 43,560 square feet. The calculator uses the exact acre, so the marla in an acre change with the marla size.

Marla to Square Yards and Square Meters

Property in Pakistan is also sold by the square yard, which many people call gaz. Marla to square yards is the square feet figure divided by 9. At 272.25, 1 marla is 30.25 square yards.

For square meters, multiply square feet by 0.0929. A 5 marla plot at 272.25 is 1,361.25 square feet, or about 126.46 square meters. Our tool shows all of these side by side.

Sarsai and Other Local Units

In Punjab you may also hear sarsai. One marla equals 9 sarsai, so a sarsai is 30.25 square feet in the standard system. The calculator includes it for old records and village deals.

Larger parcels may use bigha or murabba in some districts. These change from place to place, so confirm them with the seller.

Common Mistakes When Converting

  • Assuming every marla is 225 or every marla is 272.25 square feet.
  • Comparing two plots quoted in different marla sizes as if they were equal.
  • Using square feet to marla math with the wrong marla size.
  • Trusting a verbal size instead of the written area in the file.

A written plot area in square feet avoids most disputes. Ask for it before you pay.
